Passive House Meets Net Zero
Zeroing In On Energy Efficiency
Hosted by: CaGBC Toronto Chapter and Passive House Ontario
Net Zero Energy Homes and Buildings are quickly capturing the imagination of homeowners, builders, and policy makers alike. But what exactly does it mean to be “Net Zero”?
The Passive House Institute (PHI) in Germany has spent the last few years tackling this question. Their work has confirmed that Energy Efficiency must form the foundation of any Net Zero Energy project. To this end, they have developed new assessment method that addresses sustainable energy supply in the building sector and, based on this, introduced new classifications that build on the proven Passive House Standard and take into account the interdependencies between energy efficiency and renewable energy supply.
Jessica Grove-Smith from PHI will present an in-depth look at these new classifications and how they can be practically achieved in a cost effective manner. The talk will include a demonstration of the software tool developed based on the new sustainability assessment criteria.
