Challenge accepted: Future architects from Pratt Institute faced off in the Ice Box Challenge.

Inspired by the original event in Brussels, this competition tests two structures — one built to Passive House standards and the other to local building regulations — to see which could better keep out the heat.

Students dove into the world of Passive House building science and the LL Code, designing and constructing mini boxes with optimal thermal efficiency in mind.

This wasn’t just a competition; it was a hands-on lesson in sustainability and innovation.

Collaborating with these talented students, we witnessed the next generation of architects fostering environmental and social resilience.

Shout out to In Cho, Pratt Institute, and Building Energy Exchange for leading this experience and inviting us to join the journey.
