NYPH's NextGen Community is building the future of Passive House. Launched at the start of 2025, our mission is to connect students, recent graduates, and emerging professionals with the tools, training, and community they need to thrive.

Committees
The Executive Committee provides leadership and guidance for NYPH between full Board meetings, ensuring the organization stays focused, effective, and aligned with its mission.
What We Do:

Support the Executive Director and senior staff in managing day-to-day operations.

Review and approve urgent organizational or administrative matters between Board meetings.

Monitor strategic initiatives, organizational performance, and financial stability.

Coordinate with working groups to respond to proposals and support initiatives.

Ensure compliance with governance policies, including conflict of interest and antitrust requirements.
Who Can Join:
The Committee is made up of Board leadership, including the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to two additional Board members appointed by the Board.
How We Work:
The group meets regularly, and decisions are reported to the full Board at the next meeting. The Committee acts to support the Board and the organization, helping NYPH operate smoothly and respond quickly to opportunities and challenges.
The Governance & Nominations Committee ensures that NYPH operates with strong leadership, effective policies, and a transparent, fair process for Board and committee appointments.
What We Do:

Develop and recommend governance policies and best practices for NYPH.

Identify and recruit qualified candidates for the Board of Directors and key committees.

Support the Board in evaluating its composition, structure, and effectiveness.

Ensure that governance processes, including elections and appointments, are fair, transparent, and aligned with the organization’s mission.

Provide guidance on compliance with nonprofit regulations and bylaws.
Who Can Join:
Any NYPH member interested in supporting strong organizational governance and helping the organization build an effective, diverse, and engaged leadership team.
How We Work:
The group meets regularly to review policies, discuss potential Board and committee candidates, and make recommendations to the Board. The Committee helps ensure that NYPH has the leadership and governance structures needed to thrive.
The Finance Committee ensures that NYPH maintains strong financial practices, transparency, and sustainability. The group provides guidance on budgeting, financial reporting, and revenue strategies to support the organization’s mission.
What We Do:

Oversee financial reporting, ensuring alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).

Review budgets, income, and expenses, and provide guidance to the Board and Executive Committee.

Monitor revenue from Memberships, Sponsorships, and other sources.

Recommend strategies to increase financial sustainability and support organizational growth.

Review contracts, agreements, and financial policies to ensure compliance and best practices.
Who Can Join:
Any NYPH member with interest or expertise in finance, accounting, or organizational sustainability is welcome.
How We Work:
The Committee meets regularly to review financial statements, assess revenue and expenses, and provide recommendations to the Board. It works closely with the Executive Committee and staff to ensure NYPH operates with transparency, accountability, and financial stability.
Working Groups
The JEDI Working Group is dedicated to making the New York Passive House community more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all. The group works to identify and remove barriers, celebrate contributions, and ensure that every member has the opportunity to participate fully.
What We Do:

Develop and implement strategies to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion across NYPH programs and platforms.

Collaborate with industry partners to advance DEI initiatives and expand opportunities for underrepresented communities.

Recognize and celebrate members and projects that exemplify justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Provide guidance to NYPH leadership on inclusive practices and policies.

Any NYPH member interested in advancing equity, inclusion, and diversity in the Passive House community.
How We Work:
The group meets regularly to plan initiatives, review progress, and develop recommendations for leadership. Members collaborate on programs, outreach, and events that strengthen the inclusivity and accessibility of NYPH.
The Membership Engagement Working Group focuses on connecting, supporting, and energizing NYPH members. The group ensures members get the most out of their involvement while fostering a strong, active community.
What We Do:

The Sponsorship & Membership Working Group connects organizations and individuals to the growing Passive House community.
What We Do:

Attract and retain sponsors who support high-performance building with their products, services, or expertise.

How We Work:
The group meets regularly to develop outreach strategies, support sponsors and members, and ensure strong relationships across the network.
The State & Local Policy Working Group brings together members who want to shape the future of building policy across New York.
What We Do:

Advocate for policies, codes, and incentives that support Passive House.

Track and respond to state and municipal legislation and regulations.

Share expertise and real-world examples with policymakers.

Build partnerships with agencies, organizations, and communities.
Who Can Join:
Any NYPH member with an interest in policy, advocacy, or community engagement. No prior policy experience is required.
How We Work:
The group meets to share updates, draft recommendations, and coordinate advocacy efforts. Together, we give Passive House a stronger voice in public policy.
The Strategic Planning Working Group helps guide the long-term vision and direction of NYPH. The group ensures the organization remains strong, relevant, and impactful.
