State and Local Policy Committee

Accomplishments:

The State and Local Policy Committee has assembled a multi-organization partnership to address our mission of incorporating Passive House principles into the body of NYS and NYC energy codes and to advocate for a Passive House compliance pathway.  Our monthly meetings include representation from NYPH and local members of PHIUS.  We are regularly joined by members of the AIA COTE policy committee and the New Buildings Institute and special guests.  This past quarter we welcomed the team from Massachusetts DOER who helped get a Passive House compliance pathway into Massachusetts Specialized Energy Code.  We also provided comments on the Scope and Intent of the 2027 IECC.

Upcoming Objectives:

This quarter we will provide comments on the NYS base energy code and identify a pathway for providing comments to the upcoming NYS Stretch Code.  We will continue to look for additional opportunities to offer our expertise to the development of policies that will benefit the broader adoption of the Passive house standard and building decarbonization.
