“What would I have done without this place?” echoed through the crowd at yesterday’s ABC No Rio Groundbreaking Ceremony.

Known internationally as a center for political protest, avant-garde art, and community initiatives, ABC No Rio embodies the indomitable spirit of New York’s Lower East Side. Now, it has begun a new chapter with the groundbreaking of its new home.

Thanks to the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the
NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, we’re building a 4-story Passive House on Rivington Street that reflects the organization’s enlightened environmental politics.

Congratulations, ABC No Rio! It was exhilarating to stand with generations of artists and activists who fought for this moment. We can’t wait to witness your impact in this new space.
