How can design help to prevent loneliness? MAP and Volunteers of America-Greater New York have been exploring this question at two recent buildings – East Clarke Place Senior Residence and the soon-to-open Andrews Avenue Senior Residence. Both affordable senior housing developments have a variety of gathering spaces providing different places to connect and foster community, which helps to reduce the chances of social isolation – a frequent challenge for seniors.

In a recent episode of The Urbanist from Monocle, hosted by Andrew Tuck, MAP Principal Fernando Villa, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP BDC joins VOA-GNY President & CEO Jeffrey Ginsburg to discuss how conscientious architectural design addresses these issues.
